Shoppers travelled through time at Waverley Mall!
Waverley Mall invited families to travel through time, with a unique April half term event. Shoppers experienced ancient and medieval history as part of the national celebration of Scotland’s Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology.
On Saturday 15th April, Waverley Mall was taken over by a variety of different local history groups, for a day of ‘edutainment’. Children of Edinburgh took part in free, fun activities themed to past ages such as; Ancient Egypt and the Middle Ages. Smaller shoppers participated in the amazing ‘Time Trail’, by visiting three different stations across the mall. First, children transformed into inquisitive archaeologists and searched for hidden relics and unique artefacts in an excavation-style sand pit, in conjunction with Archaeology Scotland. Then, they became heroic knights by posing with a selection of medieval helms and swords, provided by a local re-enactment group, Medieval Realm. Children also helped to facially reconstruct a clay mannequin head in the Forensic Anthropology Workshop, led by a Doctor of Forensic Anthropology and research students from Edinburgh University.
